The next five years

Some initiatives in which we will most likely be working during the next five years are:

  • Habitat and species conservation in the wetlands of Veracruz, within a national strategy to be implemented with other representatives of Pronatura (Northeast, Veracruz, Peninsula of Yucatán-Gulf of Mexico; Chiapas, Northeast-Sea of Cortez-Pacific).
  • Habitat and species conservation in the Selva Zoque with close collaboration of Pronatura Chiapas and other participants in the area.
  • Habitat and species conservation, within the main migratory bird corridor in Veracruz.
  • Increasing our participation on initiatives for cloud forests conservation.
  • Habitat conservation through mechanisms for land conservation within a National strategy with other Pronatura representatives and close relationship with private owners, ejidos and the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas.
  • Policy influence for habitat conservation of Veracruz.
  • Model for specialized tourism initiatives supporting conservation programs.
  • Establishment of an Information Center for conservation of Veracruz coordinated with academic institutions and other non profit organizations.
  • Proved environmental education strategies for species and habitat conservation.
  • Model for monitoring strategies for bird species and their habitats as support for conservation initiatives. Within this we are considering the establishment of the first bird observatory in Mexico, and an environmental education center associated with it.
